Dr. Mark Shina has been performing bariatric surgery since 1993. He completed his undergraduate education at Tulane University in New Orleans and went on to the University of Louisville for medical school and residency. He was trained in bariatrics by one of the pioneering surgeons in this field. His practice has been dedicated primarily to bariatrics for over 10 years. He was also instrumental in starting the first comprehensive bariatric surgery program in the state of Kentucky. He believes strongly in a multi-disciplinary approach with all of his patients, whether they are interested in Lap-Band surgery or Roux En Y gastric bypass. This multi-disciplinary approach includes a nutritionist, a psychologist, a cardiologist, a pulmonologist and often, a vascular surgeon. He primarily does surgeries using the laparoscopic approach. However, he will utilize whichever technique (laparoscopic or open) that will be safest for the patient. He also does revisional bariatric surgery in select cases. Dr. Shina is Board Certified in general surgery.

For that reason, he has worked with his current hospital program to offer the only $12,500 complete package lap band surgery in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, or Tennessee for those without insurance coverage.
